Maritime innovation “on the sea”
Harnessing the wind with digitalization to fuel tankers and bulk carriers
“On the sea” is the second session in a series of three webinars featuring BAR Technologies’ work at the leading edge of maritime innovation.
Wind is the free fuel for tankers and bulk carriers. This session focuses on the application of integrated design and engineering software tools for the development of a novel green propulsion system.
Over the past few years, we have seen the emergence of a global effort to control climate change and build a sustainable low carbon future. In order to decarbonize the world fleet as soon as possible, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has introduced strict standards with regards to emissions: by 2050, ships are expected to produce at least 50% less greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and 70% less CO2 emissions than they did in 2008. Complying with those regulations require a mixture of out-of-the-box thinking and cutting-edge technologies.
With WindWings, BAR Technologies combine wind propulsion with route optimization, thereby increasing the fuel efficiency of sea-going vessels by 30 percent or more, depending on whether the installation is retrofit or on a newbuild with hull optimization. Initially aimed at bulk carriers and tankers, further variations will be developed for other large ship types.
In this webinar you will learn:
