Today around 25% of global emissions are generated by the automotive industry. This has resulted in a big challenge for the industry to find ways to reduce these harmful exhaust gas emissions. Managing exhaust gas emissions requires several different strategies beyond the internal combustion engine and after-treatment systems. These strategies are influenced by a number of different factors which should be considered: these include but are not limited to vehicle variants, powertrain electrification, control strategies, after-treatment system design and architecture, and driving cycle scenarios.
