FOR RELEASE Monday, December 4, 2006
PLANO, Texas and COLOGNE, Germany – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced that Zollern GmbH & Co. KG, selected Solid Edge® software, the CAD component of the UGS Velocity Series™ portfolio, to design its transmission technology components.
The mechanical engineering specialist will initially use Solid Edge 3D CAD in its Herbertingen, Germany plant. By the end of 2007, Zollern intends to extend the use of Solid Edge to its plants in Dorsten, Germany, and in China.
In selecting 3D CAD software, Zollern consulted with UGS partner ISAP AG. As a UGS’ NX® digital product development customer for several years, Zollern chose a complementary UGS product in its transmission technology business unit due to its simplicity and the comprehensive and flexible application options, according to Karl Wahl, Zollern’s head of construction.
“We took a look at various systems and discovered that Solid Edge was simply better than the competitors’ products,” said Wahl. “It was primarily the varied simulation options that convinced us and will make our life much easier, particularly in the complex area of gear construction. This will also help us speed up and improve the launch of products in the future.”
“With Solid Edge, Zollern is able to simulate every process step,” said Angus Marshall, director of Sales & Channel Programs EMEA, UGS. “With immediate effect, the new software will simplify the construction processes for the engineers and enable them to avoid possible errors in the initial development phases. This will allow Zollern to act faster and more efficiently to maintain their edge over the competition.”
