LONDON -- EDS today announced the implementation by Messier-Dowty of EDS T eamcenter Enterprise product lifecycle management (PLM) software to provide more than 350 engineers at the aircraft landing gear manufacturers United King dom (UK) facilities with ready access to up-to-date product information. Messier-Dowty is the world leader in the design, development, manufacture and su pport of aircraft landing gear systems. In addition to its facilities in Glouces ter in the UK, the company has operations in other parts of Europe, North Americ a and Asia. Under the software and services contract, terms of which were not disclosed, EDS PLM Solutions has supplied and implemented the Teamcenter Enterprise collaborat ion foundation and Part Family Manager (PFM) software modules from its Teamcente r product lifecycle management and collaboration software suite. The contract al so calls for ongoing software support services. Intended to replace a number of existing, disparate data management systems curr ently in use at Messier-Dowty, Teamcenter Enterprise will eventually be used to support configuration management and change control during the product developme nt process. However, in phase 1 of the system roll-out it provides view-only acc ess to design information generated on Messier-Dowtys CAD/CAM system. In l ater phases of its implementation, Teamcenter Enterprise will be interfaced to C atia and other authoring systems to provide integrated control of the product de velopment process. By replacing several different methods that we have at the moment for stor ing, managing and distributing product information, Teamcenter Enterprise will g ive us a far greater degree of control over the complete product lifecycle proce ss, said Mike Pictor, MIS project controller at Messier-Dowty. It will enable the sharing of design information, such as 2D drawings, 3D CAD models and other product information between the engineering and manufacturing departments and across the business as a whole, including our facilities in E urope and North America, he adds. We are confident that this will re sult in time and cost savings for us. Phase 1 of the systems implementation was completed recently when Teamcent er was rolled out to more than 350 engineers at Messier-Dowtys UK faciliti es.
