EDS’ Parasolid software is the open geometry standard used in hundreds of different computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/ CAE) applications worldwide. CN Industries chose to integrate Parasolid into the core of its GOelan CAM software to enhance its accuracy and ease-of-use for companies looking to simplify and automate computerized numerical control (CNC) programming of 3D CAD models. CN Industries also expects GOelan customers to derive significant benefit from translation-free access to the huge global presence of CAD models created with the 1.2 million seats of Parasolid-based applications in use worldwide.
“We have ambitious plans to market GOelan more widely and to add significant new functionality,” said Dominique Laffret, vice-president, CN Industries . “Recent trends in the geometry kernel market have given us cause for concern and we could not ignore the growing popularity of Parasolid or its use in so many of the world’s leading CAD/CAM/CAE systems. When we evaluated Parasolid we were genuinely impressed by the superiority of its technology in terms of scope, quality and performance.”
CN Industries’ decision to replace its previous software kernel was made af ter an extensive evaluation of several technical features and financial considerations. “Swapping kernels is a strategic decision and not one to be taken lightly", added Laffret. “However, the support we have received from EDS has been beyond our expectations. The Parasolid team took great care to understand our issues and address each of them professionally and diligently. The whole process has gone very smoothly. We can now look forward to marketing the enhanced GOelan product based on superior geometry modeling technology.”
“We are very proud to add CN Industries’ powerful GOelan CAM product to the growing list of Parasolid-based solutions,” said Bruce Feldt, vice president PLM Open, EDS PLM Solutions. “CN Industries was understandably concerned about the technological challenge of replacing its previous geometry kernel with Parasolid. Fortunately, we were able to leverage EDS’ extensive experience with similar migrations to address those concerns and execute an effective transition. We are delighted to have been selected by a company of CN Industries’ reputation and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship.”
