PLANO, Texas – UGS, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announcedSensAble Technologies, Inc. the leading provider of 3D touch-enabled digital solutions for commercial software development, academic and commercial research, product design, and digital content creation, has incorporated UGS’ industry-leading Parasolid® geometric modeling component software into version 8.0 of its FreeForm® Modeling Plus™ system, establishing the first 3D touch-enabled Parasolid-based application.

With Parasolid, we got them all. By leveraging Parasolid’s industry-leading geometric modeling kernel, our FreeForm Modeling Plus v8.0 software includes new Multi-representational Geometry Technology (MGT), which gives users the ability to work with multiple geometry types in the same model. Users can choose the best geometry for specific tasks within the job, which gives them the design freedom, speed, and expanded leverage of CAD/CAM tools that they’ve asked for.”
Parasolid, one of the software products in UGS’ PLM Components suite of solutions, provides the geometric modeling foundation for many of the world’s leading computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE) applications. UGS develops Parasolid, uses it throughout its product development applications and licenses it to independent software vendors (ISVs) and end-user organizations on a “level playing field” policy that ensures all licensees have equal access to Parasolid updates and enhancements.
After a thorough evaluation of the available component software options, SensAble decided to leverage Parasolid as the solid modeling foundation for FreeForm Modeling Plus v8.0, a unique, touch-enabled, 3D computer-aided sculpting (CAS) system which enables users to rapidly produce highly detailed organic models, while preserving the precision, smooth surfaces, and sharp edges of imported NURBS models. “Selection by technology adopters like SensAble is a testament to the broad applicability of Parasolid across the product development lifecycle,” said Bruce Feldt, vice president of Open Tools for UGS. “Parasolid is the recognized leading geometric modeling kernel throughout the global PLM market and UGS is pleased to add SensAble’s touch-enabled application to the family of Parasolid-based applications.”
