Electronic Design Automation

Electronic design automation (EDA) is the use of computer programs and specialized computer hardware to design, simulate, verify, manufacture and test electronic systems such as integrated circuits (ICs), IC packaging, and printed circuit boards (PCBs).

What is Electronic Design Automation (EDA)?

EDA (also known as electronic computer-aided design, or ECAD software) is software and specialized hardware electronic engineers use for the design, verification, manufacturing and testing of electronic systems (ICs and PCBs) that power data communications, the internet, modern factories and transportation, consumer devices, and an ever-growing number of digitalized, AI-driven innovations benefiting modern society.

Siemens EDA solutions

Siemens EDA is composed largely of EDA technologies gained in Siemens Digital Industry Software’s 2016 acquisition of Mentor Graphics. As of 2024, Siemens has acquired a dozen other companies and has successfully developed and launched to market over two dozen additional leading-edge EDA product innovations for its EDA business. Siemens EDA is unique in that its EDA portfolio spans IC design, IC packaging (including 3D IC) and printed circuit board design, which is complimentary to Digital Industry Software’s mechanical, PLM and enterprise software portfolios – all part of the larger Siemens Xcelerator. Among the many notable products in the Siemens EDA portfolio are:

Analog FastSPICE – Analog FastSPICE is the fastest nanometer circuit verification platform for analog, RF, mixed-signal, and custom digital circuits.

Aprisa - Aprisa is a detail-route-centric physical design platform for the modern system-on-chip (SoC) design.

Calibre – Calibre is a complete IC verification and DFM optimization EDA platform that speeds designs from creation to manufacturing, addressing all sign-off requirements.
