Find better designs faster and earlier in the design process using computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
The automotive industry is going through disruptive changes with the adoption of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS systems) to vehicle electrifications. Western original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) today need to survive the present demands while winning the future with new innovative technology. OEMs are embracing simulation-based design to reduce design time while lowering costs. To be successful, they need fast and accurate methods to capture real-world operating conditions.
Thermal heat protection and aerodynamics are a couple of key design criteria needed for minimizing energy use for improving vehicle performance. This webinar introduces how OEMs can conduct a simulation in days for what used to take weeks, and how the complete workflow from computer-aided design (CAD) to results can be reduced even down to hours.
In the first half, we’ll demonstrate the actual workflow for setting up and running the simulation. In the second half, we’ll introduce how this is being customized and adopted at different OEMs.

Daniel Steen
Solutions Consultant, Simcenter 3D Fluids Center of Excellence, Siemens Digital Industries Software
Daniel is a Solutions Consultant for Simcenter fluid dynamics software. Starting from an aeronautical engineering background, Dan has since assisted major American automotive and heavy equipment manufacturers with the use of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ for vehicle thermal management simulations since joining CD-adapco (now Siemens) in 2015.
Frederick Ross
Director, Simcenter solutions for Automotive and Transportation, Siemens Digital Industries Software
Frederick started with CD-adapco in 1989, which was acquired in 2016 by Siemens and has extensive experience working with customers on applications such as vehicle heat protection, aerodynamics, and passenger thermal comfort. Frederick has been directly involved development process enabling automation of virtual vehicle simulation all the way from CAD to results. Frederick is currently working with the STAR-CCM+ product management team to help customers streamline their in-house process.
Sunil Karri
Program Manager, Siemens Digital Industries Software
Sunil Karri is an experienced program manager with the Siemens Engineering and Consulting team. He has expertise in several CFD applications including aerodynamics, thermal management and multiphase flows. He has worked closely with multiple automotive companies to develop strategic roadmaps that helped achieve VTM simulation capabilities at various levels of fidelity. He oversaw the development and deployment of VTM best practices in production through custom workflow solutions that helped accelerate productivity at customer sites. He earned his masters degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Kansas where he specialized in fluid dynamics and numerical methods.
