Develop safe automated driving systems with scenario-based validation

The safety goal of Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF) is to gradually increase the known safe scenarios by discovering unknown and unsafe scenarios and moving them to known and safe scenarios during the development. This can be done using simulation and scenario-based validation methodology, which combines accident databases and other scenario types with extracted driving data logs, public datasets, and continuous simulation to create a database for extensively testing in the virtual world. The test results are then correlated and assessed using different safety metrics, such as the IVEX safety models and metrics. If the results pass the certification and homologation criteria, safety certificates can be issued.
