PLANO, Texas – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced Robert Bosch GmbH, the world’s largest automotive supplier, has become a Corporate member of the JT™ Open Program, the rapidly expanding PLM industry initiative that is committed to making 3D product data easily accessible to a broad and diverse global audience.
The JT™ data format is the manufacturing industry’s most widely used lightweight data format for sharing vital product information – including detailed 3D product geometry – to facilitate effective enterprise-wide collaboration throughout a product’s lifecycle.
Bosch has been using JT for more than four years to help promote innovation and collaboration among its engineers who use a variety of computer-aided design (CAD) software applications in product development. Furthermore, since nearly every major CAD application can output lightweight JT files, Bosch is able to seamlessly, efficiently and accurately share CAD data outside of engineering and throughout its organization, providing all departments with the ability to access and visualize real-time 3D product data.

Bosch will leverage its broad expertise across multiple industries to help establish the open JT 3D data format – developed by UGS – as the industry standard. As a leading global manufacturer, Bosch is lending its considerable strength to the ongoing promotion of JT as a base element for product data sharing across all industries, and will actively influence further development of JT to ensure the benefits are realized for its own multinational business groups and partners.
