Digitalization in an evolving manufacturing market

PhoenxPLM is a product lifecycle management (PLM) software provider supporting companies in several key manufacturing industries including aerospace and defense, automotive and transportation, marine, industrial machinery and heavy equipment and more. The company maintains offices across locations in Australia and New Zealand. PhoenxPLM strives to help its customers make informed and accurate decisions by using digitalization technology that produces better business outcomes. An integral part of their strategy is helping businesses transition to digitalization.

PhoenxPLM is a Siemens Expert Partner, recognized by Siemens Digital Industries Software for its specialization in using Teamcenter® software, which is part of the Siemens Xcelerator business platform of software, hardware and services. Siemens recognizes partners that exemplify expertise in a Siemens solution or industry. These Siemens Expert Partners are validated by customers and Siemens for demonstrating their business and technical acumen.

PhoenxPLM uses Teamcenter for its unique ability to foster better decision-making by connecting people and processes with a vendor-neutral approach to manage product design and manufacturing data. The PhoenxPLM team are experts in turning vast amounts and varied data into valuable data. PhoenxPLM has created its Rise and Soar Programs, designed to ensure customer success in digitalization.

The Rise Program offers customers with a dedicated support consultant, training programs and employee education. It assists companies in the early stages of digitalization, helping them understand how to use Teamcenter and integration processes. This approach helps customers use Teamcenter to deploy PLM solutions in stages and leverage the available training to reach their full potential in their manufacturing processes.

The company tailors its Soar Program to customers who have digitalization plans and need new and innovative ways to boost efficiency. The program offers process maturity assessments designed to help customers optimize their existing solutions while leveraging industry experts to provide insights and quarterly business reviews.

“Solving critical business, manufacturing process and operational issues is a significant responsibility,” says Mark Wilson, general manager of PhoenxPLM. “That is why we offer and implement solutions combined with a team of knowledgeable, experienced digitalization experts. Our primary goal is to maximize our customers’ technology investments.”

Ensuring security and efficiency

An Australian all-terrain vehicle manufacturer experienced challenges in project management inefficiencies caused by manual workflow tracking. It was also vital that the software they chose ensured intellectual property (IP) security. It used generic file management systems, so it struggled with controlling file access rights across departments. The company also relied on spreadsheets to manually manage the product inspection, approval and release process that was slow and prone to errors.

The technical teams found that they could use Teamcenter and the security and workflow feature to solve their problem. PhoenxPLM had previously helped the customer use NX™ software and believed they could also help them use Teamcenter as a natural extension of their business relationship.

PhoenxPLM recommended implementing Teamcenter in stages so users could adapt to the software’s extensive functionality over time and leverage PhoenxPLM’s extensive user training. The technical teams offered coaching for high-level staff to show them how to develop customized workflows. As a result, the customer is researching other applicable Teamcenter workflows to further increase efficiency for its computer-aided engineering (CAE), supply chain and production management teams. Using Teamcenter also garnered additional benefits including improved security that segregated individual projects and offered stringent file access rules thus ensuring tighter security and more comprehensive IP management.

Additionally, the customer can now share technical data automatically, so design engineers can align closely with CAE engineers to accelerate file transfer time by at least a week. The previous manual production process took up to three weeks but using the functionality in Teamcenter maps information from a CAD environment resulted in a much quicker turnaround time. CAE teams can log into Teamcenter directly and collect the latest versions of necessary files. Using Teamcenter also helped automate bill-of-materials (BOM) generation.

PhoenxPLM constantly looks for new ways to support its customers. The company will continue to deliver unsurpassed technical support through their free local online support, improve the Rise and Soar Programs, add to their already extensive online resources regularly and engage clients in training programs.

“Digitalization, automation and PLM are well-known terms in the manufacturing sector,” says Leigh Penny, communications manager at PhoenxPLM. “As an industry leader in consultancy for these processes, we have developed robust business assessment and implementation programs that help improve the efficiency of our client’s operations.”
