Demonstration of how CFD software can be used to create and refine turbomachinery simulations

Turbomachines transfer energy between rotors and fluids. These machines are essential for energy supply from wind and hydropower, as well as steam and gas turbines. Watch our on-demand webinar to observe the application of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ turbomachinery flows. You’ll also learn best practices to improve quality and accuracy in turbomachinery simulations.

Webinar topics include:

Turbomachinery workflows, including model selection, quality assurance and design decisions

Meshing considerations, including numerical accuracy, quality and shear layer resolution

Turbulence and rotor-stator interaction models

Boundary conditions

Learn how to refine the steady-state process for consistency

The webinar features a demonstration of statistically steady turbulent flow, consisting of the average mass, momentum and total enthalpy equations. It includes the application of the implicit mixing plane algorithm of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to model rotor state interaction as a steady state process. Tune in to observe how the steady-state process enables improved simulation consistency.

Discover how applying finite element meshing can increase the quality of turbomachinery

Mesh generation is an essential step in the simulation workflow and is critical for obtaining high-quality results. The webinar discusses items considered when generating meshes, including numerical accuracy. For all discrete methods, including finite element meshing, numerical errors decrease in proportion to the mesh size. Discover how Simcenter STAR-CCM+ quantifies numerical errors to help deliver reliable results.

Learn how to accurately measure pressure boundary conditions for improved turbine design

Measuring pressure boundary conditions is challenging in turbine designs. The webinar features Simcenter STAR-CCM+ comparing the total pressure ratio plotted over the mass flow rate. Whether you want to discover the essential aspects of best-practice CFD workflows or observe new turbomachinery post-processing features, this webinar will teach you how to take your CFD simulations to the next level.
