PALM SPRINGS, Calif., February 3, 2010 – The American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) / Corporate Member Council (CMC) today announced that PACE (Partners for the Advancement of Engineering Education) is the recipient of the 2010 Corporate Member Council Excellence in Engineering Collaboration award. This award recognizes CMC members that demonstrate collaboration with colleges, universities and impact engineering education and heighten the interest of young people in engineering. The award was presented to PACE Partners during the ASEE 2010 Conference for Industry & Education Collaboration.
PACE links General Motors, Autodesk, HP, Siemens PLM Software, and Sun Microsystems to support 53 outstanding colleges and universities in 11 countries around the world to better prepare young people for high-technology careers in design, engineering, and manufacturing. Eleven other companies additionally support PACE in this effort—including Altair, Ansys, LSTC, Stratasys, and Wacom.
PACE was selected for this award because it demonstrates best practices in its collaborative efforts with education globally. For example, with its globally collaborative projects—e.g., the PACE Emerging Market Vehicle Project and the PACE Race Car Project—combined with software and hardware donations, training and mentoring offerings, and many other services, the Program provides a structure for thousands of students to experience what real-life engineers and creative designers do in the vehicle development process. This Program, established in 1999, better prepares students to hit the ground running when they enter the work world.
On Wednesday, February 3, Karl Stracke, General Motors Vice President for Global Vehicle Engineering, (represented by Vass Theodoracatos, Manager of Global PACE Partnerships), and Ed Arlin, Senior Vice President, Global General Motors Account, Siemens PLM Software will be on hand to accept the award at this year’s ASEE/CIEC Conference in Palm Springs, California. Both Stracke and Arlin are co-chairs of the PACE Executive Sponsor Council, the governing board for the Program.
