NASCAR® NEXTEL Cup Series Chase for the Championship Begins: UGS Technology Helps Company-sponsored Race Teams Win Four of the Top Ten Spots

FOR RELEASE Friday, September 15, 2006

PLANO, Texas – UGS Corp., a leading provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) products and services, today announced UGS-sponsored Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports – whose cars are developed with the help of UGS® digital product development technology – won four of the top ten spots in the NASCAR® NEXTEL Cup Series Chase for the Championship.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s rookie driver Denny Hamlin, who will start the chase in fifth place, won the Pocono 500 and Pennsylvania 500 to sweep the two NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races this year at Pocono Raceway.  Hamlin also became the first rookie to win the Budweiser Shootout in its 28-year history.  The Budweiser Shootout is the traditional kickoff to the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season held the week before the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.

Hendrick Motorsports drivers Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon will start the chase in second, fourth and ninth place respectively.

Johnson, who won four races this season, is only the second driver in race history to win both the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway and the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard at Indianapolis Motor Speedway – the two biggest races – in the same year.  Johnson also won the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway.  In addition, Johnson, who drives the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, also won the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge at Lowe’s Motor Speedway to take home the $1 million prize.

Kyle Busch, who holds the record for the youngest pole winner and youngest race winner in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and is the youngest Raybestos® Rookie of the Year (2005) winner, won the Lenox Industrial Tools 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway, in NASCAR’s version of overtime.

Jeff Gordon, a four-time NEXTEL Cup Champion, a three-time Daytona 500 winner and a three-time NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge winner, won the Dodge/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway and the USG Sheetrock 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.  The USG Sheetrock 400 was Gordon’s 75th career win and his first at Chicagoland Speedway, leaving only three NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race tracks where Jeff Gordon had not posted a victory.  Gordon also won the Gatorade Duel 2 leading up to the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.

“UGS congratulates Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing and their drivers for making the Chase for the Championship, and we wish the teams good luck,” said Dave Shirk, executive vice president of Global Marketing for UGS.  “UGS and UGS-sponsored racing teams share a common culture of teamwork and a relentless pursuit of excellence, pieces that are integral for success.  UGS is proud of our relationship with the racing teams and along with our customers are pleased to know that our solutions help the teams consistently deliver wins to continue to stay on top of the pack and go for the championship.”
