EDS Releases New Version of Parasolid®, Its Industry-Leading Geometric Modeling Software

PLANO, Texas -- EDS today announced the immediate availability of Parasolid vers ion 15.0, the latest release of its industry-leading geometric modeling componen t software. Parasolid 15.0 includes new modeling and editing capabilities, incre ased support for manufacturing processes, extended interoperability and improved productivity. Parasolid creates and controls the precise 3D mathematical representation of a p roduct’s shape. The resulting geometric data is used to automate crucial product lifecycle management (PLM) processes such as computer-aided design, manufacturi ng and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE). Parasolid enables CAD/CAM/CAE applica tions to support the development of the most complex parts and assemblies found in today’s sophisticated industrial and consumer products. In order to establish an effective standard for geometry representation, Parasol id is licensed under a “Level Playing Field” policy both to end-user o rganizations and application software vendors -- including EDS competitors. Enhancing Industry Leadership Parasolid’s unrivalled modeling foundation has been extended over several releas es to deliver a program of targeted manufacturing support, and is enhanced in Ve rsion 15.0 to provide new capabilities in the following areas:
  • Manufacturing support – advanced tapering for castings and moldings, in cluding support for partial mitering, selective edge removal and undercut; spun outline for turning applications & support for feature-based machining
  • Sheet and surface modeling – improved aesthetics and advanced smoothnes s control in surface lofting; advanced sheet extension and trimming tools to aut omate conceptual sheet modeling, and construction of thin-walled parts
  • Application support – faceting optimizations for visualization performa nce; maximum distance enquiries for containment; blend preview and automated ble nd repair and diagnostics
  • “Parasolidis the industry’s leading geometric modeling software with well over a mil lion licenses being used to develop some of the world’s most advanced and i nnovative products,” said Bruce Feldt, vice president of Open Tools, EDS PL M Solutions. “Its increasing success in manufacturing and validation applic ations demonstrates the value Parasolid adds in automating and simplifying the c omplex operations these technologies require. Now, with this latest release, Par asolid promises to extend its leadership position with significant technology an d productivity innovations that help application vendors and manufacturing enter prises increase product and process innovation while compressing their product d evelopment cycles.” Unparalleled Data Exchange and Interoperability In addition to Parasolid’s new capabilities, an enhanced version of the Par asolid Bodyshop component is now available, extending the robustness of CAD data exchange. Parasolid Bodyshop is a toolkit used to “heal” inconsistenc ies in models that have been imported from non-Parasolid-based systems. With these developments, EDS builds upon its exclusive two-way data compatibilit y between different Parasolid versions. By removing versioning issues, EDS furt her optimizes interoperability between applications based on Parasolid, and deve lopers of Parasolid-based applications now enjoy unparalleled ease of integratio n. In addition, users of Parasolid-based systems benefit from a plug-and-play en vironment where their applications can work together seamlessly to improve produ ctivity and time-to-market.
