PLANO, Texas -- EDS today announced the selection of its Solid Edge® compute r-aided design (CAD) software by Anhui Jianghuai Automotive Co. Ltd. (JAC), a Ch inese automotive chassis supplier based in Hefei, the capital city of the Anhui province. Jianghuai Automotive, a listed joint venture company on the Shanghai Stock Excha nge, licensed 30 seats of Solid Edge as the first step to replace its 2D CAD app lications. The company plans to implement as many as 90 additional licenses of S olid Edge in the next two phases of its migration to 3D solid modeling. Solid Ed ge will be used to design automotive chassis parts and accessories as well as mo lds and tooling. Solid Edge will provide the ideal mainstream CAD platform to complement ou r existing Unigraphics® NX® high-end application, said Mr. Shao Ji ngyuan, chief technology officer for Jianghuai Automotive. We evaluated se veral 3D CAD systems and rated Solid Edge as the best in modeling functionality, ease-of use and interoperability. Solid Edge also has the strongest drafting to ols addressing the Chinese national GB standards, essential to all our manufactu ring environments. Jianghuai Automotive also cited the customization capabilities and strong local support from United Digital Systems Co. (UDS), a master reseller of Solid Edge i n China. UDS provided a large measure of confidence that Solid Edge was th e right product to move even more of our 2D systems to 3D.
