Improving Seat Trim Development Efficiency

Seat design and manufacturing software revolutionized the trim cover development process for multiple industries.  Prior to the existence of Computer Aided Design (CAD) seat development software, the design and manufacturing process was labor intensive, highly inefficient and error prone. CAD integrated seat definition provides OEM and Tier1 suppliers a single source definition for all geometric and non-geometric data and reduces the reliance on prototypes and increases productivity. prototypes and increases productivity.

This presentation will illustrate the technical and business challenges that exist for the OEM and Tier1 supplier which impact cost and time to market and how Siemens PLM Software solutions for seat trim development can be leveraged to overcome them.  We will present how OEM’s can utilize seat trim development solutions earlier in the design cycle to identify manufacturing challenges and streamline communication between the studio and seat engineering departments.  In addition, this process change has been proven to identify and reduce the number of issues passed on to suppliers that lead to costly design changes and delayed program launches.

  • The impacts of common seat definition on reducing cost and shortening time to market.
  • Validating feasibility of studio surfaces and effectively exchanging data between disciplines.
  • The importance of communicating design intent from OEM to Supplier.
