Regardless of whether you are printing plastic or metal, fixed-plane, or multi-axis, on a desktop or industrial machine, NX can handle it. Regardless of what you print or what you use to print it, our tools support multiple technologies from the most recognized additive manufacturing hardware vendors in the industry. NX also supports the 3MF and STL data standards for export to printers we do not connect with directly.

NX was the first major CAD system to support hybrid manufacturing machines. These machines include additive manufacturing as well as normal subtractive operations within the same machine resulting in the ability to easily shift between additive and subtractive processes. Users of these machines can manufacture highly complex designs to very tight tolerances. Our integrated additive and subtractive software systems put Siemens in a unique position to support these machines with the operations necessary to drive this unique hardware.
Siemens is at the forefront of additive manufacturing technology with support for multi-axis additive manufacturing. These machines often use a DED or WAAM process and their multi-axis nature means that the deposition paths used are 3D rather than planar, which requires special processing that the only NX can perform. Siemens is working with the best in the industry and our multi-axis deposition path generation software is being used to drive many of these cutting-edge machines.
Powder bed fusion is the most widely used technology for additive manufacturing, especially metal printing and Siemens has partnered with the best in the business to ensure that our software works with their hardware. Siemens has also partnered with HP to certify NX for printing directly to HP Multi Jet Fusion printers and NX supports hundreds of desktop printers through direct integration with Ultimaker’s Cura solution.
