PLANO, Texas and COLOGNE, Germany, November 28, 2012 – Ronal, a leading Swiss manufacturer of alloy wheels, selected Siemens’ NX™ software as its primary computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) system to be used throughout tool development and production. With a full rollout planned for completion by 2016, Ronal expects NX to boost overall productivity, reduce costs and minimize risk in the design, manufacturing simulation and production of tooling. NX was chosen at the end of an intensive benchmarking and selection process, and after visits to prominent Siemens reference customers in similar industries.
As a supplier of alloy wheels and rims for passenger vehicles and trucks to several well-known customers in the automotive sector, Ronal decided it needed to find a new CAD system capable of reducing lead times in tool production. The company runs the entire supply chain – from planning and manufacturing through production.
After Ronal’s evaluation, Siemens PLM Software was selected as the preferred supplier. NX stood out particularly in the production of tool turning and milling while its seamless integration with other systems will optimize process efficiency and improve productivity over the long term. NX also received positive endorsements from employees who had previously used the software. Ronal’s NX deployment means that it will use a single system for CAD and CAM, making it easier for tool development and tool production functions to work together. NX will also enable Ronal to adapt to the latest product developments and run real-time manufacturing simulations.
Within one year NX will be implemented throughout the entire tool development area enabling Ronal to handle its entire process with a single system, as opposed to individual solutions. The integrated system will provide better access to data to make processes leaner and more efficient. The complete transition to NX in tool design and production is scheduled to take place over the course of four years.
“NX allows companies to consolidate design and manufacturing into a single platform, which is essential when designing and developing parts for vehicles where the focus is not just on appearance, but on other factors, such as safety,” says Michael Obst, CEO at Siemens Industry Software in Switzerland. “This is especially important for a manufacturer like Ronal with prominent automakers among its customers. Ronal’s decision to deploy NX in tool development and production will continue to improve both the quality and efficiency of its products.”
