PLM World 2004 Conference Highlights Increasing Global Interest in Product Lifecycle Management Technology

FOR RELEASE Thursday, June 3, 2004

PLANO, Texas --UGS, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, and PLM World Inc. today announced the 2004 PLM World conference drew more than 1,650 attendees, breaking all previous attendance records.

Held May 17-21 in Anaheim, Calif., the annual conference represents the world’s largest PLM user community brought together around a common open platform.  Keynote speakers Dr. Ola Isaksson from Volvo Aero Corporation in Sweden, Prof. Ruan Xue-yu  from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China and American author and syndicated columnist Oliver L. North addressed the global importance of innovation and technology advancement in the development and management of products.

"The record attendance at this year’s PLM World event reflects the growing international interest in PLM technology and the ways it is being used to dramatically improve cycle time, innovation and productivity for our customers," said UGS Chairman, CEO and President Tony Affuso, who delivered opening remarks at the event.

UGS announced on May 27 the closing of its acquisition by a private equity group of Bain Capital, Silver Lake Partners and Warburg Pincus.  The transaction represents the largest private equity investment ever made in a technology company.  The company also launched operations that day as an independent software business under a new corporate brand -- UGS.

"Also indicative of the momentum of the PLM industry is our recent private equity sale," Affuso said.  "This move not only confirms the value of UGS’ strategy and capability as a PLM provider, but serves as an endorsement of the growing PLM market and the overall potential PLM technology offers to businesses in a wide variety of industries."

UGS User Conference Attendance Also Growing

Further evidence of the increasing interest in PLM has been seen worldwide at regional UGS user conferences, where attendance continues to rise.  A recent series of UGS user conferences in Asia drew more than 4,500 attendees, and across Europe, local conferences have drawn thousands more.  PLM Europe (http://www.plm-europe.org/), scheduled for October of this year, is again expected to draw parties from more than 22 countries.

"Our organization continues to grow," said Jim Wilson, chairman of PLM World Inc. and system integrator with the Eastman Kodak Company.  "Our members represent a a wide spectrum of businesses, disciplines and product usage, but our common goal is to help our companies build strategic advantage through the use of PLM technology.  The record attendance we saw at this year’s conference illustrates the importance companies are placing on PLM and the opportunity to help shape its expanding capabilities. The user creativity, continuing advancements in technology and new opportunities for collaboration and innovation we are seeing at these events is very exciting."
