FOR RELEASE Thursday, June 10, 2004
PLANO, Texas and DEARBORN, Mich. -- UGS, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced its Global E-factory Symposium to be held June 16-17 at the Conference & Event Center in Dearborn, Mich., kicking off an extensive awareness program to highlight the benefits and value created by the deployment of its E-factory brand of digital manufacturing solutions.
"Manufacturers worldwide are beginning to realize that improving the build phase of the product lifecycle management process is a valuable strategy for gaining an edge on their competitors," said Bob Nierman, executive vice president of business strategy and marketing for UGS. "By bringing together what were once a collection of isolated manufacturing engineering activities into a single unified and collaborative system like E-factory, companies will be better able to streamline their processes, maximize resource utilization and ensure the success of their products."
Focused on a growing market
The Global E-factory Symposium will focus on the rapidly growing digital manufacturing market with user presentations, technical demonstrations and a special business development workshop for management to quantify the value of implementing digital manufacturing as an enterprise strategy. Several world-class companies will be both presenting at and attending this annual event which will be co-hosted by consultant CIMdata, a globally recognized leader in the PLM industry.
CIMdata described digital manufacturing as "a major growth area" in the PLM market space in a press release issued March 31st. "Digital manufacturing is a critical component of any full PLM initiative, and a key enabler for innovation," said Ed Miller, president of CIMdata. "We’ve forecasted investments in digital manufacturing to grow at an average of 30 percent per year for the next five years, from 2004 to 2008."
Discrete manufacturers in the aerospace, automotive, electronics and commercial equipment and machinery industries have traditionally been the most intensive users of digital manufacturing solutions. Recently, companies in a variety of other industries -- including pharmaceutical, shipbuilding and consumer products -- are also starting to embrace this technology as a competitive advantage.
Promoting global awareness
In addition to the Global E-Factory Symposium in Michigan, UGS will conduct several other events around the world to highlight the benefits of digital manufacturing for companies in all industries.
E-factory is one of UGS’ five main product suites along with Teamcenter, NX, Solid Edge and PLM Components.
