International Manufacturing Technology Show(IMTS),CHICAGO –UGS, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, todaylaunched its Part Manufacturing solution,a comprehensive product that brings together all the disciplines involved in making parts to ensure leaner design, faster process planning, smarter Numerical Control (NC) programming and better shop floor communication.
UGS made the announcement at press briefing held in its booth (D-3027) at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) inChicago. UGS plans to showcase its manufacturing solutions at the show, which runs through September 15.
“The real value of the Part Manufacturing solution is that it helps reduce the time manufacturers waste when searching for manufacturing data and minimizes the errors that result when incorrect or out-of-date information is used,” said Ted McFadden, vice president of Manufacturing Planning Solutions, UGS. “By giving everyone access to the right data when they need it, UGS Part Manufacturing helps companies manage change better, reach the right decisions earlier and deliver innovation faster and more cost-effectively.”
What differentiates the UGS’ Part Manufacturing solution is that it brings together everyone involved in the manufacturing process, from manufacturing and industrial engineers to NC programmers, tool and fixture designers and shop floor personnel.
“Some vendors provide pieces of a part manufacturing application,” said McFadden, “but no other vendor has the ability to bring all of the pieces together and allow manufacturers to maximize their overall performance. We describe the solution as enabling ‘Maximum Manufacturing,’ and it essentially redefines how companies can manage the digital manufacturing process.”
Structured Data Management Environment
UGS’ Part Manufacturing solution operates in a structured data management environment that offers everyone involved in the process controlled access to part design data, process templates and resource libraries. This environment, powered by UGS’ Teamcenter® technology, enables customized collaboration, workflow control, flexible reporting and efficient communication with the shop floor.
“Our part manufacturing environment gives users the data defining products, processes, resources and facilities in the specific context that they need to do their jobs,” said McFadden. “It transforms basic data storage into a manufacturing information management system that provides a meaningful competitive advantage.”
The solution incorporates UGS’ NX™ and E-factory applications to provide such key functionality as NC programming, tool design, process planning and resource management.
“UGS Part Manufacturing is scalable to meet the requirements of any size enterprise,” said McFadden. “Customers can take the elements that suit their requirements, and then add additional elements as required.”
McFadden noted that manufacturers have adopted PLM software to streamline the front end of product development – the design engineering component – and are just now beginning to apply similar digital decision making to the downstream manufacturing process. “The collaborative power of UGS’ PLM solution has enabled manufacturing engineers, NC programmers, tool designers and others to participate in the early stages of product development, where their knowledge of materials, machining and production processes can help design engineers make smarter decisions that will lower the eventual cost of a product, assure quality and accelerate time to market,” McFadden said.
UGS is a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services with more than 3.1 million licensed seats and 42,000 clients worldwide. Headquartered inPlano,Texas, the company promotes openness and standardization and works collaboratively with its clients in creating enterprise solutions enabling them to transform their process of innovation and thus begin to capture the value of PLM.
