ZENICA, Bosnia and Herzegovina – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced it is providing 320 seats of its NX™, Teamcenter™ and Tecnomatix™ software to the University of Zenica. The in-kind grant, commercially valued at more than € 56 million, will serve Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy and Material Sciences faculties as well as the Metallurgical Institute, Institute for Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Industrial Engineering, Development Centre, Science/Technology Park and the LECAD laboratory.
In a partnership ceremony held on June 20, Professor Sabahudin Ekinovic, rector of the University of Zenica, officially accepted the in-kind grant which was also acknowledged by the Federal Premier, Dr. Ahmet Hadzipasic.
“This is a very important opportunity for our University and we appreciate it, indeed. The application of this software in education will increase our students’ knowledge and expand economic development initiatives for regional industries,” said Professor Ekinovic.
The grant is being made through UGS’ Global Opportunities in Product Lifecycle Management (GO PLM™) initiative, which leads the PLM industry in the commercial value of in-kind grants it provides at more than $4 billion annually. UGS’ GO PLM initiative brings together five complementary programs focused on academic partnerships; community relations, regional productivity; youth and displaced worker development; and the Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education (PACE) program. The initiative provides PLM technology to more than 860,000 students annually at nearly 8,400 global institutions, where it is used at every academic level – from middle schools to graduate engineering research programs.

The University of Zenica is one of eight universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. High education in Zenica has a tradition of more than 45 years. The advanced School of Metallurgy was founded in 1958 and in 1967 the first Metallurgical Institute was founded. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was founded in 1977 and now there are six faculties within the University of Zenica, Engineering Faculty for Metallurgy and Material Sciences, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Health Sciences). Other related institutions include the Metallurgical Institute, Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Industrial Engineering, Development Center, Center for Social Studies and Inter-religious Projects, Science/Technology Park, ODL Centers, etc. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was the first institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina to have licences for CAD/ CAE/ CAM software.
There are approximately 4,500 students currently studying at the University of Zenica which employs (full and part-time) more than 300 professors, assistants and other staff.
