Innovation et gestion de programmes synchronisée et collaborative pour les nouveaux programmes
CAMBERLEY, UK, November 13, 2002 - EDS today announced ALSTOM's Industrial Gas Turbines business in Lincoln, UK, has selected Teamcenter® product lifecycle management (PLM) and visual collaboration software to support the manufacturer's moves towards a fully integrated product lifecycle management environment. A multi-year contract for software and on-going support services was signed during the third quarter, 2002.
The Lincoln, UK, site of ALSTOM specialises in the development, manufacture and packaging of a range of industrial gas turbines for electrical power generation and mechanical drive of pumps and compressors for the oil and gas industry. Under the terms of this new contract, EDS PLM Solutions will deliver and implement additional modules of Teamcenter, including Teamcenter Visualisation, to provide real time, web-based collaboration facilities for up to 350 engineering, manufacturing, procurement and management personnel, both within ALSTOM's Lincoln site and at the company's principal suppliers and partners. In addition, EDS will deliver and implement its Vis Mock-Up CAD-neutral digital mock-up and prototyping software and Vis Publish web-based publishing software.
ALSTOM in Lincoln is already a major user of EDS' collaborative product development and manufacturing software, having standardised on the Unigraphics® software suite for the design of complete gas turbine packages, including not just the turbine itself but also the ancillary equipment required to support it on site. The company has also standardised on EDS' Teamcenter Engineering software to facilitate the management of all related product information, as well as the product development process itself.
"The additional software that we are now implementing will help to reduce our product development time-scales still further, at the same time as improving quality, by enabling everyone involved in the product development process to communicate more effectively," says Alan Walker, IS business projects manager for ALSTOM. "Importantly," he adds, "it will also help us to reach our goal of a fully integrated product lifecycle management environment which embraces everything from product concept through to, and including, the essential after-market support."
In this new, evolving PLM environment, EDS' Teamcenter Engineering will be integrated with ALSTOM's SAP ERP system, via SAPConnect, so that it can provide the up-to-date Bill of Materials (BOM) required for back-office activities. Meanwhile, Vis Publish will be used to generate interactive parts catalogues which include navigable 3D images from which users "drill down" to the Teamcenter Engineering product database in order to identify and then order parts required for service and maintenance procedures."ALSTOM has been a major customer of EDS PLM Solutions for some years now," says John Hurley, President, UK Sales and Support Operations, EDS PLM Solutions. "We are extremely proud of their continued faith in our abilities to deliver the software and services they need for their business that this latest contract demonstrates and we look forward to continuing to help them achieve their aims."
