Founded in 1993, CADMAC Co. Ltd. (CADMAC) provides computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) solutions to clients in the automotive and industrial machinery industries. The company offers software development and maintenance to over 2,500 customers in Japan and Thailand. It specializes in Solid Edge® software, which is part of the Siemens Xcelerator business platform of software, hardware and services.

As a Siemens Expert Partner specializing in Solid Edge, CADMAC focuses on supporting customers that are transitioning from 2D to 3D CAD tools. Siemens Digital Industries Software recognizes partners that exemplify advanced expertise and competency in one of its solutions. These Siemens Expert Partners are validated by customers and Siemens for demonstrating their superior business and technical acumen. Achieving Siemens Expert Partner status helps CADMAC convey a higher level of reliability and trust to customers.

The company decided to specialize in Solid Edge because its synchronous technology enables users to edit designs more efficiently than other CAD software.

“Solid Edge differentiates itself from its competitors with its operability and synchronous technology functions,” says Minoru Hayakawa, vice president of CADMAC Co. Ltd.

CADMAC recommends the intuitive and powerful toolsets of Solid Edge to customers who have previously relied on 2D CAD tools and those who have been unable to effectively leverage their current 3D CAD solutions.

“Solid Edge has many appealing functions, especially for sheet metal users,” says Hayakawa. “It’s a very good product for users who are considering introducing 3D CAD.”

CADMAC engages in monthly technical enablement sessions with Siemens to ensure it is always up-to-date on Solid Edge functionalities. It is then able to pass on this knowledge to customers who also benefit from CADMAC’s dedicated support of their Solid Edge implementations.

Custom software development increases productivity

To elevate its reputation in sheet metal fabrication, CADMAC leveraged its Solid Edge expertise and industry knowledge to create a custom piece of Solid Edge add-on software, MacSheetSEG5. The software is a 3D sheet metal design and development drawing system that allows customers to easily create, edit and develop 3D models. The software can also be used to create development drawings automatically, which helps customers reduce development time.

One of CADMAC’s customers manufactures truck bodies. Because its customers require highly customized products, which results in small orders and low production runs, the truck body manufacturer faced scalability challenges. Since sheet metal processing is a large part of truck body manufacturing, the company counted on CADMAC’s expertise in 3D sheet metal design and manufacturing to help resolve these critical productivity issues.

After consulting with the customer and analyzing its development and manufacturing processes, CADMAC recommended Solid Edge in conjunction with CADMAC’s MacSheetSEG5 software. The intuitive features of Solid Edge helped the customer transition smoothly from 2D to 3D systems, while the MacSheetSEG5 software add-on improved the design efficiency of new sheet metal parts. This software combination improved design productivity by 15 percent. Furthermore, the customer was able to use Solid Edge to capture 3D data for re-use in sales presentations. This increased sales efficiency by 20 percent.

Driving sales

A food processing equipment manufacturer struggling to meet market demands due to its inefficient development capabilities turned to CADMAC for help. The company approached CADMAC because of its reputation for innovative technical sheet metal design and processing capabilities.

CADMAC recommended the company use Solid Edge for product design and incorporate MacSheetSEG5. It believed the product analysis features of Solid Edge would help the customer make any required adjustments to designs earlier in the product lifecycle, thus reducing costs and improving efficiency and quality. By following CADMAC’s recommendations, sales at the food processing equipment company increased by 18 percent.

“Our software has evolved in keeping with the changes in the global manufacturing industry,” says Noboru Takagaito, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of CADMAC. ”CADMAC develops products together with our customers. Every day we strive to create products that satisfy our customers in a timely manner.”

CADMAC’s Solid Edge expertise helps tailor solutions for its customers, strengthen its reputation and grow its business. The company plans to continue its close relationship with Siemens to enhance application development and provide its customers with even better support.
