Explore IndustrySolving the design challenges of oil and gas separation systems
Solving the design challenges of oil and gas separation systems
Solve design and operation challenges of oil and gas separation systems
Oil and gas separators are pressure vessels used in the oil and gas industry for separating the fluid components of an oil and gas well stream into gaseous and liquid constituents.
Due to the complexity of the operating fluid dynamics, the harsh environmental conditions, the large size and intricate geometric design of phase separators, the physical testing of separation systems is an extremely challenging, time-consuming and costly task. Simulation helps solve the challenges associated with the design and operation of oil and gas separators.
Join us and learn how engineering simulation helps operators and equipment manufacturers improve separator design, increase the operation efficiency and meet the environmental performance challenges.
Real-life examples and case studies will illustrate how engineering simulation supports the digital transformation of the oil and gas industry by providing reliable methods to understand and predict complex multiphysics behaviors. Based on his extensive experience, the speaker will explain how Norton Straw’s team of engineering specialists deploy Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to gain into complex multiphase flow behaviors. Accurate simulation of multiphase flow regimes helps engineer improve the design of oil and gas phase separators. It also provides informed operations across a range of separation challenges.
Learn why computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has become an industry-accepted approach to lead and verify designs as well as to guide and inform operations.
Using CFD, engineers can predict complex multiphase flow behaviors and gain substantially greater insight into the separation systems’ physics compared to physical testing. As a result of the improved understanding, they can make well-informed design decisions and suggest operational improvements. However, their simulation needs to accurately capture the wide range of multiphase flow regimes and behaviors of the intrinsically multiphase separation systems.
This presentation use case studies of work undertaken by Norton Straw’s specialist engineering team to demonstrate:
David Fielding
Operations Director, Norton Straw
David is a Chartered Engineer with over 15 years’ experience working as an engineer in the oil and gas industry, focused on the application of advanced simulation technologies to a wide range of design and operational challenges. He has provided support to many operators and separation technology companies, applying simulation to optimize designs, troubleshoot performance issues and demonstrate that the equipment will meet the performance and environmental specifications. David’s experience of the application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) across a range of industries has provided a solid basis to help overcome the many challenges of separation processes simulation. His current role now covers leading operations at the engineering and technology consulting firm Norton Straw, which encompasses a wider range of technical disciplines. David is also greatly focused on the technical development of the company.
