Innovación y gestión de programas colaborativa y sincronizada para nuevos programas
SÃO PAULO, Brazil, August 26, 2004 – UGS, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced a software grant to Universidade Paulista (UNIP) to help the university develop programs that better prepare students to enter a growing segment of the job market. UGS provided the grant -- which has a commercial value of $US3.3 million -- through its PLM industry-leading Global Opportunities for Product Lifecycle Management (GO PLM) program.
Through the grant UNIP will use 660 licenses of Solid Edge®, an industry-leading application for computer aided design (CAD), in degree courses in Digital Communication with emphasis on Technical Drafting, Industrial Design and Engineering. A two-year program, based on the software, will give students the opportunity to gain experience with real-world technology used in the PLM industry, including solid modeling, rendering, digital simulation and other advanced CAD technologies.
Initially, UNIP plans to introduce Solid Edge at six of its campuses: Anchieta, Bauru, Campinas, Jundiaí, Manaus and São Josè dos Campos. UNIP plans to extend use of Solid Edge to 12 additional campuses in the future.
Pedro Tijunelis an IT department teacher at UNIP, says, "With Solid Edge, the students will have contact with the most modern CAD technology in the mainstream segment. The software will enhance our ability to develop effective academic projects and will also help students understand the product development cycle requirements important to industry."
“UGS is pleased to support UNIP’s efforts to prepare its students for successful careers in PLM. This partnership is important because it helps address the shortage of qualified labor needed to work with the mechanical CAD software in the manufacturing market,” said Roberto Trinconi, president of UGS Latin America. “Solid Edge has been shown to reduce the development cycle time for a product by up to 50 percent. This makes it popular with manufacturing companies looking to reduce costs and improve their competitive advantage.”
The mission of the Academic Partnership program, one of four community involvement programs that are part of GO PLM, is to improve the technical stature of academic institutions and their ability to develop top-notch engineering, manufacturing and technology students for communities, clients and business partners. The company has developed academic partnerships with more than 55 universities in Brazil and 80 in Latin America, among them, UNIMEP (Methodist University of Piracicaba), USP São Carlos, UNESP, PUC-PR, UCS (University of Caxias do Sul) and UNICAMP.
Solid Edge from UGS is a powerful 3D CAD software that allows manufacturing companies to Design with Insight and achieve competitive advantage through cost reduction, while increasing top line revenues. The exclusive Solid Edge Insight technology embeds design management capabilities directly within CAD, providing insight into design intent to the entire organization and enhancing collaboration. Insight, complemented by Solid Edge’s superior core modeling and process workflows, greatly eases the design of increasingly complex products required to meet continually changing market demands. The extensive Solid Edge user community is comprised of designers at thousands of companies worldwide, including Agrale, Astra, Arno and Fame, among others. The Solid Edge Voyager Program includes 200 integrated engineering software applications and computer hardware solutions.
UGS’ GO PLM initiative leads the industry in the commercial value of the in-kind grants it provides, more than US$2 billion in 2003, and brings together four complementary community involvement programs focused on academic partnership, regional productivity, youth and displaced worker development and the PACE (Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education) program. GO PLM provides PLM technology to almost 800,000 students yearly at more than 7,700 global institutions, where it is used at every academic level – from middle schools to graduate engineering research programs. Since 1972, when it began its activities in the city of São Paulo, UNIP has been aligned with the evolutionary process of the country. It has prepared for the present and the future, based on the humanism, science and technology that are the schoolmistress lines. Today it offers more than 50 degree and two-year short-term degree courses, as well as several postgraduate courses for specialization, doctorate and master’s degrees. It is considered a multi-campus university, with 11 campuses in the capital (São Paulo), 13 in additional São Paulo State cities and 3 in other Brazilian states (Manaus, Goiânia and Distrito Federal).
UGS is a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services with more than 3.1 million licensed seats and 42,000 clients worldwide. Headquartered in Plano, Texas, the company promotes openness and standardization and works collaboratively with its clients in creating enterprise solutions enabling them to transform their process of innovation and thus begin to capture the value of PLM.
