Performance Engineering and Data Management in Aerospace & Defense

It is clear that in today’s fast-moving market, the biggest challenge companies are facing is how to effectively handle all this disruption (growing competition, fast innovation of new technologies, etc). There are really only two ways to succeed: either they disrupt first or if someone disrupts them, then they must make sure you are able to respond very quickly. To keep a competitive edge, companies today need to make digitalization central in their product development process. This is key to keep up with our quickly evolving world otherwise your products will be replaced with smarter, better, cheaper alternatives from your competitors. The choice is very simple: either innovate these highly complex products quickly or stagnate and risk losing business and market share.

Our belief for the need to adopt this new approach for performance engineering in support of the comprehensive digital twin has let us to the creation of a portfolio called Simcenter. Simcenter delivers best in class CAE simulation, system simulation, and testing solutions as well as design exploration and analytics. These technologies are then managed in a PLM context, using Siemens’ Teamcenter® software, to support the engineering and development of complex systems.

This webinar will be interesting for designers and CAE-engineers involved in performance analysis of aerostructures. During this webinar, participants will learn about the Simcenter 3D MoS solution, which allows for detailed analysis of aircraft structures based on traditional analytical approaches. The solution allows you to estimate local strength, panels and reinforced skins buckling, connections under tension, compression and shear loads. During the webinar we will get familiar with standard library of methods implemented in Simcenter 3D, as well as learn how to develop own libraries based on your analytics and use them in calculations.

Webinar 2: Coupling 1D Amesim + Simcenter 3D Motion. An Amesim user perspective

This webinar will be interesting for Amesim users, system engineers. Any aircraft is a conglomerate of mechatronic/Multiphysics systems working seamlessly together. A lot of this systems connect to different mechanisms - such as landing gears, rudders, slats, flaps, etc. - that are usually simulated in Simcenter 3D Motion. In order to benefit from the power and accuracy of a Multiphysics digital twin, an Amesim user will be performing very often coupling of 3D Motion models with 1D Amesim models. During this webinar the coupling process will be described in details, step by step – from an Amesim user perspective.

15 December 2020 - 10:00 am Turkish Time

Webinar 3: Chassis dynamic motion analysis: lower/retract, drop-test. Provide results as an input for stress analysis

This webinar will be interesting for designers and CAE-engineers involved dynamic motion analysis studies. One of the main tasks during new aircraft mechanisms development is to verify operability of mechanisms in various positions and analyze forces arising in different nodes. SC Motion solution allows you to quickly and effectively perform dynamic analysis of complex kinematic system of structural elements and, in case of its failure, determine where and under what circumstances a particular component will fail when the system is in operation. In the upcoming webinar we will consider how to develop kinematic model of landing gear mechanism, conduct kinematic and dynamic analysis taking into account solid and elastic deformable bodies. You will be shown how to use solution tools to simulate contact interactions between links, set different types of loading and calculate reaction forces, torques, speeds and accelerations based on the calculation results in graph or 3d mode. During the webinar we will look at the process of cleaning/ releasing of the chassis modeling, copra wheel reset, connect to hydraulic shock absorber model prepared in SC Amesim and solve related problem.

Webinar 4: Simulation data management - Simcenter 3D

This webinar will be interesting for structural engineers, Simcenter 3D users. Simulation data management is one of the most important components in the product development process. In this webinar, you will learn about the core capabilities of Teamcenter Simulation in theory and practice. It will be shown how to work and manage simulation data in Teamcenter managed mode. On the typical workflow process, we will demonstrate the work of a structural engineer in Simcenter 3D controlled by Teamcenter.

14 January 2021 - 10:00 am Turkish Time

Webinar 5: Universal connections: design-analysis workflow for fasteners

This webinar will be interesting for designers and CAE-engineers involved in assembly definition process. This webinar will highlight design to analysis workflow for fasteners. The most challenging and error prone scenarios in aerostructure development are connected to the exchange of information between different development teams. In case of fastener management this is compounded by the fact that fastener definition in CAE is often tedious and requires a lot of manual effort. Webinar will explain best practices in building associative design-analysis fastener definition to ensure effective collaboration and reduction of manual effort.

19 January 2021 - 10:00 am Turkish Time

Webinar 6: Flaps, ailerons simulation in flight - actuators, hydraulics etc

This webinar will be interesting for Amesim users, system engineers. In this webinar we will see an overview to how to model a Servo-hydraulic flight control actuator: From specifications to detailed design. We will see together examples of Flap kinematics, Electro-hydrauilic actuator and electro-mechanical actuators.

04 February 2021 - 10:00 am Turkish Time

Webinar 7: Dynamic analysis of the structure: harmonic analysis and random analysis

This webinar will be interesting for CAE-engineers. In practice, dynamic design analysis covers a wide range of engineering problems, but formally it is reduced to two main types of problems : 1) analysis of non-stationary transients in the structure under relatively short-term loads; 2) study of the dynamic response of the structure, usually in the form of constructing the amplitude-frequency characteristics of output values on the periodic impact of external factors. In some cases, external influences can also be random, and loads are set by random variables. From the point of view of ensuring the operability of the structure, the ultimate goal of dynamic calculations is to analyze the behavior of the structure and synthesize its parameters, which minimize or limit the consequences of dynamic effects. At the upcoming webinar, we will look at the capabilities of the Simcenter 3D platform in terms of calculations and dynamic design analysis.

16 February 2021 - 10:00 am Turkish Time

Webinar 8: Simulation data management - StarCCM+

This webinar will be interesting for CAE products users, Star CCM+ users. Simulation data management is one of the most important components in the product development process. In this webinar, you will learn about the core capabilities of Teamcenter Simulation in theory and practice. The main focus of the webinar is to show how to manage simulation data coming from the external tools. As an example, Teamcenter demo-workflow process based on the Star CCM+ tool will show the typical work of a CFD-engineer.

Webinar 9: Simcenter non-linear analysis with SOL401 and SOL402

This webinar will be interesting for CAE-engineers. The nonlinearity of the behavior of mechanical systems is observed everywhere in everyday life. So, for example, when connecting sheets of paper with a paper clip, there is a significant change in its original shape; an overloaded bookshelf will bend more and more over time. By analogy with the examples given, nonlinearities are widespread in any construction that meets us. If we look at the load-displacement curve, we will find the main sign of nonlinear behavior of all systems: the instability of structural rigidity. Generally, changes in stiffness can be caused by three main reasons: changes in the state of the structure, geometric configuration, and the behavior of the material. Using modern technical numerical solutions, it became possible to predict the nonlinear behavior of structures, as well as to evaluate the load-bearing capacity under the influence of destructive loads. The upcoming webinar will highlight the main features of Sol401/ Sol402 nonlinear solvers, as well as focus on the difficulties that users face in solving this type of problem.

16 March 2021 - 10:00 am Turkish Time

Webinar 10: Engineering analysis of composite parts

This webinar will be interesting for designers and CAE-engineers involved in composite parts analysis. This webinar will highlight composite structures performance analysis as well as data exchange with CAD applications. Composite parts have high complexity due to much more parameters comparing to traditional isotropic materials such as ply amount and positions, orientations, different materials in single part etc. Also interlaminar connections are a subject for precise investigation. During the session attendees will be able to see how composite layup is created, updated or imported from Fibersim, shell plies converted to solids etc as well as many aspects of solution results investigation.
