Powder bed fusion is the most widely used technology for additive manufacturing, especially metal printing. NX supports common preparation steps for planar powder bed printing including build tray setup, support structure generation, and print process definition. NX also supports 3D nesting of parts in the build tray for printers which benefit from this type of build volume optimization.
Siemens has partnered with HP to certify NX for printing directly to the HP Multi Jet Fusion printer. Our process allows you to design parts, optimize the build tray with 3D nesting, and print directly to the HP Multi Jet Fusion printer with no external software required. NX was the first major CAD system to support hybrid manufacturing machines. These machines often use a DMD Process for additive manufacturing as well as normal subtractive operations all within the same machine. The multi-axis nature of these machines means that the deposition paths used are 3D rather than planar, which requires special processing that only NX can perform.
Siemens has worked with our partners to support multi-axis deposition. As the additive manufacturing industry has matured, more hardware manufacturers are beginning to marry robots with additive manufacturing. This alleviates the need for support structures and also widens the working envelope for the technology allowing for much larger parts to be produced. Siemens is working with the best in the industry and our multi-axis deposition path generation software is being used to drive many of these cutting-edge machines.
