PLANO, Texas, May 22, 2002 - EDS today announced it has achieved the market leadership position among global computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) technology suppliers, according to leading product lifecycle management (PLM) industry analyst firm CIMdata. CIMdata's endorsement of EDS' leading position in the CAM market comes on the heels of last month's announcement that the firm had listed EDS as the leading PLM technology supplier for cPDm solutions based on revenue and mark et presence data. EDS launched PLM Solutions -- a combination of the former Unigraphics Solutions (UGS) and Structural Dynamics Research Corporation (SDRC) -- on October 1, 2001.
"The EDS PLM Solutions CAM program has made steady progress in both market and product capability," said Alan Christman, vice president, CIMdata, Inc. "The overall Unigraphics CAM product capability, including manufacturing modeling, is among the leaders in the industry. From a market prospective, CIMdata now positions EDS as the largest CAM software vendor on the basis of revenues received and as one of the most rapidly growing CAM software vendors. This combination of size and growth rate is not common."
According to the CIMdata NC (Numerical Control) Market Assessment Report (available to CIMdata NC Market Service subscribers), EDS achieved an approximate 15% market share of the largest NC vendors ranked by CIMdata. The report forecasts that EDS will maintain its market share leadership in 2002.
"We are pleased CIMdata has recognized EDS PLM Solutions as the market leader in revenue for our manufacturing software," said Bill Carrelli, president, business strategy and marketing, EDS PLM Solutions. "Even as worldwide manufacturing activities experienced a downturn in 2001, we were able to achieve growth in this sector while many of our competitors were experiencing declining market share. Our leading position is evidence of our proven track record of delivering superior products and services for manufacturing companies worldwide."
EDS PLM Solutions offers an extensive range of manufacturing applications. Leveraging these applications, companies are able to manage pre-production manufacturing information by associating product, process, plant, and resource definitions through integral process planning.
