Innovation and collaborative, synchronized program management for new programs
FOR RELEASE Tuesday, February 1, 2005
PARISand PLANO, Texas – UGS, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced that Nissan Rally Raid Team selected UGS’ PLM software as part of its drive to win the Dakar Rally 2005.
With strong ambitions for the Dakar Rally 2005,Nissan Rally Raid Team decided to build a team to put its own Pickups on the starting grid. The prestigious international team used UGS’ NX™ suite of digital product development solutions for product definition, performance simulation and digital manufacturing. The UGS™ software enabled Nissan Rally Raid Team’s design engineers to accelerate the development of its race Pickups using a completely digital process.
Nissan Rally Raid’s design team was committed to implementing an integrated design and analysis solution that would allow designers to quickly use computer simulation (structural analysis) to speed the development of race pickups. After evaluating several CAD and CAE systems, Nissan Rally Raid Team chose I-deas® NX Series primarily because of the seamless interface between its design and analysis application.
“Timing is everything in any form of motor sport, so reducing the time taken to get a new Pickup truck onto the track or to make modifications will help us to build a championship winning machine,” said Christophe Chapelain, technical manager of Nissan Rally Raid Team. “Computer simulation is essential. The seamless connection between I-deas NX Seriesdesign and analysistools lets us use simulation to the fullest extent possible for optimizing race pickups.”
The design team used UGS’ I-deas NX Series to model the different Pickup parts and quickly evaluate several different alternatives and determine which would give them the best combination of speed, strength and weight without building expensive and time-consuming physical models.
“The fact that Solutions F, a partner of Nissan Rally Raid Team, has used I-deas NX Series for several years reinforced the Nissan Rally Raid Team decision, as it would enable a transfer of skills between the two companies,” said Chapelain.
“We are proud that a world-class organization like Nissan Rally Raid Team, with such demanding design requirements and tight development schedules, has chosen to leverage our technology and expertise to help it achieve its extraordinary goals,” said Pascal Zehren, president of UGS France. “UGS has established itself as the PLM market leader by solving some of the world’s most challenging business problems for global manufacturers. The trust Nissan Rally Raid Team has placed in our solutions is evidence of the strong technology foundation supporting our leadership position.”
NX is a next-generation digital product development system that helps companies transform the product lifecycle. With the industry’s broadest suite of integrated applications, NX touches the full range of development processes in product design, engineering and manufacturing. NX allows clients to conceive, design, engineer and validate discretely manufactured products – and capture their product definitions – in a fully digital environment.
UGS is a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services with nearly 4 million licensed seats and 42,000 clients worldwide. Headquartered in Plano, Texas, the company promotes openness and standardization and works collaboratively with its clients in creating enterprise solutions enabling them to transform their process of innovation and thus begin to capture the value of PLM.
