Innovation and collaborative, synchronized program management for new programs
FOR RELEASE Thursday, June 9, 2005 TOKYO and PLANO, Texas – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced Asahi Electronics Co., Ltd. (AEC), Japan’s leading provider of real time 3D graphics and virtual reality solutions, as the newest member of the JT Open Program, building on the strong global momentum of this rapidly expanding initiative.
Established in November 2003, the JT Open Program is a global initiative to promote the proliferation and on-going enhancement of the widely used 3D JT data format. Companies worldwide use the JT format to enable visual collaboration throughout their extended enterprises resulting in lower costs and enhanced innovation throughout the product lifecycle process. UGS organized JT Open at the request of its customers in order to establish JT as a common language for sharing information in the PLM industry.
AEC will join several other industry leaders at the Supplier Collaboration Summit in Tokyo, Japan on June 17 to share the benefits of JT Open and the JT data format. The UGS-organized event will feature keynote addresses from General Motors and Siemens, two JT Open corporate members, discussing how the lightweight 3D JT data format has helped enable their successful product lifecycle collaboration projects.
“We believe that utilizing JT – the world’s leading collaboration format – will offer significant benefits to our customers,” said Naofumi Kajitani, president of Asahi Electronics. “Our corporate strategy is to provide various solutions based on real time 3D graphics and virtual reality technologies. Joining JT Open represents a great step forward in our efforts to provide seamless product development processes by leveraging innovative IT technologies.”
The addition of AEC to the JT Open Program continues its global expansion and further strengthens JT Open’s momentum in Asia Pacific. The Supplier Collaboration Summit is open to all organizations interested in obtaining a better understanding of this expansion and to learn more about how JT may benefit their product lifecycle.
“The addition of AEC to the JT Open Program is further evidence that JT is being accepted as the standard format for sharing 3D data among leading companies in Japan,” said Mark Matousek, JT Open Program Manager, UGS. “The Supplier Collaboration Summit will be an excellent opportunity to hear first hand from GM, Siemens and UGS about how JT and the JT Open Program are helping manufacturers worldwide significantly improve their ability to collaborate throughout their product lifecycle process.”
The JT Open Program is an initiative driven by global leaders that view PLM as a competitive advantage and have adopted the 3D JT data format as a standard. JT is a common 3D data format for enabling product visualization and information sharing between PLM software applications. The robust functionality and lightweight nature of JT technology makes it possible to view and share product data, manufacturing information and interactive images worldwide, in real-time and throughout all phases of the product lifecycle.
Membership in JT Open is available to any and all end user corporations, independent software vendors (ISVs), academic institutions and non-profit industry organizations. Some of the current JT Open members include UGS, General Motors, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Siemens, Renault, Visteon, Caterpillar, Autoweb, Bentley, PTC, Alias, Theorem, Opticore, Polyplan, Landmark, Spicer, Realtime Technology and Actify as well as academic members Brigham Young University, Technical University Darmstadt, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and The University of Michigan.
In addition, many other companies that derive indirect value from the initiative participate as JT Open advocates. JT Open advocates include HP, Intel, Microsoft, SAP, Tecnomatix and Elysium.
