Derek Roos

CEO and Co-Founder, Mendix

Derek Roos cofounded Mendix in 2005. As chief executive officer, he leads a pioneering team of software industry experts with the mission to bridge the communication gap between business and IT, making business application development dramatically easier, faster and collaborative. As a result, the company is achieving tremendous global growth and is disrupting the way many of the world’s leading companies are innovating and differentiating through visually driven, low-code software development for the enterprise.

With Derek at the helm, Mendix was acquired in 2019 by Siemens AG, the world's largest industrial manufacturing company, for $730 million. The acquisition helps accelerate Mendix’s growth by providing access to Siemens’ tremendous global resources and customer footprint. Under his leadership, Mendix extended its platform and ecosystem to develop world-class applications, empowered its customer base of visionary ‘makers’ — including “citizen developers” — to create state-of-the-art software through enterprise low-code development, becoming the primary application platform for all Siemens Cloud Solutions. Mendix has consistently earned accolades for its visionary leadership as a low-code development pioneer from Gartner Magic Quadrant analysts. Mendix has over 4,000 enterprise customers and 100,000 developers using the platform, and in 2019 reached over $100M in annual recurring revenue.

Derek earned a Master of Science degree in Business Administration from Erasmus University, Rotterdam. He is a highly sought speaker at IT conferences and is a guest lecturer at several universities. Derek received the Ernst & Young Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 Award and was named the 2019 CxO of the Year by the Computable Awards, considered to be one of the most important IT prizes in the Netherlands.
