Amtek Auto Ltd. manufactures a wide range of components for automotive applications, specializing in engine, transmission and suspension systems. Prominent customers include Tata, Maruti, International Tractors, Hema Crank Shaft, Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto Ltd., Hero Honda, Escorts, Fiat India, Ford and Yamaha Motors.
Amtek Group was established in 1985 with the incorporation of the flagship company, Amtek Auto Limited. Since then, it has grown rapidly to emerge as a frontrunner in the global automotive component industry through a number of strategic initiatives, including acquisitions across Asia, Europe and North America. Amtek Auto Ltd., Dharuhera, part of the Amtek Group, is engaged in the machining and designing of a variety of large- and medium-sized automotive components. Amtek Auto was established in 2006 at Dharuhera and serves major OEM suppliers. The company is equipped with CNC equipment, flex machining systems and fully automatic lines.
Amtek Auto’s product portfolio consists of an extensive range of components for two and three wheelers, cars, tractors, light commercial vehicles, heavy-duty commercial vehicles and stationary engines. The major categories of components manufactured are connecting rod assemblies, flywheel ring gear assemblies, steering knuckles, suspension and steering arms, crankshaft assemblies and torque links. In-house design and development facilities ensure the highest level of quality for all of the company’s products and services through processes governed by Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. Accreditation includes TS-16949 and ISO-14001.

To improve its competitive position, Amtek Auto knew that it needed to significantly reduce the time required to design forging tools. A key part of gaining an edge included assuring design accuracy. Finally, the company wanted the ability to quickly find and re-use design data for new product development and to efficiently modify designs provided by the customer.
After a thorough review of the leading CAD/CAM/CAE technologies, Amtek Auto chose NX™ digital product development software to address its requirements. “Before selecting, deploying and using NX we were facing numerous problems specifically related to design flexibility,” says A.K. Singh, deputy general manager, Amtek Auto Ltd. “We decided to invest in high-end software and chose NX for a variety of reasons, especially its sophisticated design capabilities and proven strengths in significantly reducing design time.”
NX demonstrated its value early on by resolving the problems that the company had been experiencing related to sophisticated blends in dies. NX’s design capabilities now enable the company to easily and quickly create models that previously were difficult to handle. “When we design an axle or shaft, the main concern is to implement the exact draft and different blend, so the software must be flexible enough to accept the features easily,” says Singh. “For a stub axle project we recently completed in NX, the draft was threedimensional and so complex that I can’t imagine it would have been possible to handle using other software.”
From the first projects designed using NX, the company has substantially reduced design time. Design re-use has translated to an estimated 60 percent improvement in design productivity. Amtek Auto’s numerous design successes using NX include work on a manufacturer’s leading SUV model, as well as projects for a top multiutility vehicle manufacturer and prominent passenger car manufacturer.
Recently, Amtek Auto upgraded its NX application and is now leveraging Synchronous Technology, which eliminates the need to choose between constraint-driven or history-free modeling as well as eliminates the concerns associated with using data from multiple CAD systems. Singh notes, “Synchronous Technology provides numerous features that have helped us to effectively modify the model in significantly less time.”
Amtek plans to invest heavily in its tool room facility, adding NX seats and implementing even more closely integrated digital product development processes. The company is also looking at investing in a fully equipped tool room to be able to further improve its precision machining and turnaround.
