Siemens was honored by Johnson & Johnson’s Procurement Department with its 2013 Supplier Enabled Innovation (SEI) of the Year award, while also receiving the department’s 2013 Best Product SEI award. Siemens’ product lifecycle management (PLM) business received the awards for its collaboration with DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction around a product platform known as TRUMATCH® Personalized Solutions. DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction is a division of DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., part of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies. Siemens PLM Software was recognized during Johnson & Johnson Procurement Department’s annual SEI Awards ceremony at the company’s corporate headquarters in New Brunswick, NJ on December 5, 2013.
“It is a privilege for Siemens to receive Johnson & Johnson Procurement Department’s SEI of the Year and Best Product SEI awards, which are a testament to our working relationship and dedication to customer success,” said Chuck Grindstaff, CEO and president, Siemens PLM Software. “We are excited to collaborate with DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction on TRUMATCH® Personalized Solutions and to have the opportunity to help advance patient care. This is a great example of how we are working with our customers to help them optimize their products.”
Siemens and DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction are creating an integrated design system that automates the creation of customized instrumentation, which helps to service more patients with products built for the individual. The system includes highly efficient image analysis and surgical planning software that significantly decreases case design time. Siemens brought medical image analysis and software development expertise to the DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction team and adapted its off-the-shelf software to meet the product needs of TRUMATCH® Personalized Solutions.® The result is a system that DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction uses to design patient-specific customized instrumentation quickly and safely.
The solution was developed by Siemens Corporate Technology in conjunction with Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division. It enables a highly automated engineer-to-order process for medical device companies who develop personalized products and therapies. Beginning with an MRI or CT image of patient anatomy, and ending with personalized medical devices, such as surgical instruments, Siemens’ integrated PLM platform helps achieve speed and accuracy along the entire process chain.
Using Siemens’ NX™ software, technicians can create computer-aided design (CAD) models of the surgical plan. The entire process is securely managed and controlled using Siemens’ Teamcenter® software, facilitating collaboration and delivering information to all participants involved in the sales, planning, design, manufacture and quality organizations.
