PLANO, Texas, December 13, 2001 - EDS today announced Merloni Elettrodomestici (Merloni) has expanded its use of EDS product lifecycle management (PLM) software to support and extend its manufacturing enterprise by enabling employees at European manufacturing centers to collaborate on product designs over the Internet in real time. Under the contract with EDS' PLM Solutions line of business, terms of which were not disclosed, Merloni -- a leading European household appliance manufacturer -- will deploy an additional 53 licenses of EDS' Solid Edge® software (bringing the total seat count to 122) and will expand the use of its EDS' E-vis software to its manufacturing centers in Portugal, Turkey, France, Poland and Russia.
Solid Edge is a 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software solution for the design and development of mechanical products. E-vis software provides a secure, Internet connected workspace where members of the extended enterprise can collaborate, share data and conduct real-time, interactive conferences on 2D and 3D product data. Solid Edge's ease of use, powerful solid modeling functionality, fast legacy data conversion and minimal training time were cited as reasons for the software's selection.
"Solid Edge fully meets our needs and expectations," said Luca Tonelli, product life cycle consultant for the information technology department at Merloni. "In addition, E-vis will significantly enhance our ability to connect our geographically dispersed manufacturing centers in real-time collaboration on the development of new, innovative products."
Engineering Spa (www.engineering.it), a Solid Edge reseller in Cesena, Italy, supports the household appliances division of Industrie Merloni. Engineering Spa provides products, consulting, training, technical support and, as one of the Solid Edge Voyager Program members, customization and productivity tools.
