PLANO, Texas – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced CAD Systems nv, based in Antwerp, Belgium, has integrated and released the D-Cubed 3D Dimensional Constraint Manager (3D DCM) solution in its new structural steel design solution, Parabuild.
UGS’ D-Cubed 3D DCM has been accepted as the industry standard component solution for adding a 3D constraint solving capability to a variety of geometric software applications. Its applications include assembly modeling, mechanism simulation, direct non-history-based part modeling and parametric 3D sketching.
Parabuild has implemented the 3D DCM to support an innovative technique for the efficient design of steel structures. Geometric dimensions and constraints are used to specify relationships between the various elements in a structure. The relationships capture and preserve the design intent and enable alternative design configurations to be rapidly prototyped by modifying certain geometric relationships.

Geometric constraint solving is already deployed in major mechanical CAD systems and is critical to CAD Systems’ mission to pioneer enhanced steel structural design capabilities.
