Innovation and collaborative, synchronized program management for new programs
Siemens’ latest version of NX™ software, the company’s integrated solution for computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE), features multiple enhancements driven by customer input. New CAD functionality in NX 8.5 include streamlined design workflows and usability enhancements that help shorten design cycle times by up to 30 percent. A new NX CAE capability interactively suggests design improvements that reduce stress concentrations, while other simulation enhancements help engineers accelerate the preparation of accurate analysis models and reduce analysis time by as much as 25 percent. With NX 8.5, the Siemens product lifecycle management (PLM) business unit also introduces new CAM functions to further automate quality inspection programing and machining tasks commonly encountered by the machinery industry.

Many of the hundreds of new features in NX 8.5 are the result of Siemens’ process for collecting input and suggestions for productivity improvements from its own customers and software end-users. For example, NX CAD includes a new Emboss Body command that requires fewer steps when combining a region of faces from another intersecting solid or sheet body. A new tool called NX Shape Optimization is being introduced in NX CAE that suggests specific, detailed improvements to an existing design to reduce stress concentrations. And NX CAM now includes a significantly improved Volume Based 2.5D Milling application that shortens the time necessary to program the machining of prismatic shaped parts.
Additional improvements in simulation modeling, structural, thermal, flow, motion and multi-physics analyses to help NX CAE users prepare more accurate analysis models, and speed solution time by as much as 25 percent. NX CAM offers new functions to support and automate multi-part and multi-stage machining, and the highly automated quality inspection programming capability offered with its CMM Inspection Programming solution has been added to NX 8.5 with integrated measurement results analysis and display.
