Innovation and collaborative, synchronized program management for new programs
PLANO, Texas, September 30, 2010 – Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, and ZWCAD Software Co. Ltd., a leading provider of computer-aided design (CAD) products, today announced the use by ZWCAD Software of Siemens PLM Software’s D-Cubed™ software, Parasolid® software (Communicator) and Parasolid STEP translator software in ZW3D™ software for CAD/CAM.
ZW3D is ZWCAD Software’s new 3D CAD/CAM system based on technology acquired from VX Corporation. It extends ZWCAD Software’s product line – predominantly led by the 2D ZWCAD system – into new 3D CAD/CAM markets. ZW3D offers users a complete, integrated, 3D CAD/CAM family of products.
The D-Cubed 2D and 3D Dimensional Constraint Managers (2D DCM and 3D DCM) are the most widely used geometric constraint solvers in the global CAD market. The 2D DCM typically supports 2D sketching, and the 3D DCM typically supports 3D sketching, assembly part positioning, motion simulation, and direct part modeling.
Parasolid is the world’s leading production-proven 3D geometric modeling component software. Parasolid powered applications span multiple industries – all of which benefit from the ability to seamlessly share geometric models through the native Parasolid XT file format. Parasolid Communicator enables the import/export of XT files without translation, as well as the interrogation and visualization of the imported files. The Parasolid STEP translator, part of the Parasolid family of translators, enables the exchange of data between the XT and industry standard STEP file formats.
“Having decided to acquire the VX CAD/CAM product line as the foundation for our move into 3D CAD/CAM with ZW3D, the decision to license these four components from Siemens PLM Software followed on naturally from our prior decision to license the D-Cubed 2D DCM for our ZWCAD Professional product,” said Kingdom Lin, vice director of the overseas department at ZWCAD Software. “We evaluated the D-Cubed 2D DCM software intensively. As a result, we discovered the qualities that underpin its market-leading position, and in the process became convinced of Siemens PLM Software’s status as a dependable long-term provider of core CAD/CAM technologies backed by high quality support services.”
“Driven by of our long-standing open business model, the D-Cubed and Parasolid components are used in virtually all countries where commercially significant CAD/CAM products are developed,” said Joan Hirsch, vice president, Product Design Solutions, Siemens PLM Software. “We are especially pleased to welcome ZWCAD Software to our worldwide family of customers. Its significant presence in China and other countries helps expand our exposure in these important markets.”
