PLANO, Texas and STOCKHOLM, Sweden, November 19, 2007 – Siemens PLM Software, a division of Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, has delivered more than 40,000 Solid Edge® software licenses to Nordic universities and engineering schools, making it a leading Nordic academic CAD tool.
“Solid Edge is a great user-oriented engineering tool that offers our students a rich engineering experience,” said Hans Nyberg, engineering teacher at Östrabogymnasiet, an upper secondary technical school in Uddevalla, Sweden. “Thanks to Solid Edge, our students learn 3D CAD engineering, making them a valuable and attractive resource for product development companies. Solid Edge offers many useful engineering benefits. For example, the motion option allows them to see a 3D motion film of their engineering projects, which gives an authentic engineering experience. This is very useful because we have limited 3D-printer availability.”
Siemens PLM Software has a strong relationship with leading universities and engineering schools in the Nordic region. For example, the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has used the company’s Solid Edge software as its principle CAD software, resulting in many successful engineering projects, such as the Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH) Formula Student race car and a local Solid Edge best practice manual that is used by numerous Nordic engineering schools.
“Siemens PLM Software strongly believes in close relationships with schools and universities around the world,” said Henry Seddon, vice president of Marketing, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Siemens PLM Software. “With Solid Edge in particular, students have the opportunity to train on state-of-the-art engineering software to learn valuable skills such as 2D and 3D engineering. Also, Solid Edge-educated engineering students become excellent ambassadors for our company’s software, which helps to promote a bright future for our products in the Nordic engineering world.
Siemens PLM Software, a division of Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D), is a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services with 4.6 million licensed seats and 51,000 customers worldwide.
