PLANO, Texas, April 17, 2002 - EDS today announced leading product lifecycle management (PLM) industry analyst firm CIMdata has listed it as the leading PLM technology supplier for cPDm solutions based on revenue and market presence data. Based on data compiled in 2001, the CIMdata endorsement of EDS' position in the PLM market comes only six months after EDS launched PLM Solutions -- a combination of the former Unigraphics Solutions (UGS) and Structural Dynamics Research Corporation (SDRC) -- on October 1, 2001.
"The comprehensive portfolio of PLM offerings from EDS PLM Solutions combined with the EDS core consulting services provides a comprehensive suite of offerings for product lifecycle management solutions," said Ed Miller, president of CIMdata. "The combination of former UGS and SDRC into the new organization has resulted in a clear market impact in a number of industries, including automotive, aerospace, high-tech and consumer packaged goods. By utilizing the services component within other multiple business units, EDS has increased its enormous footprint in the cPDm portion of the PLM market."
According to CIMdata's April 2002 report, EDS has over twice the cPDm revenue of its nearest competitor and almost three times the revenues of the third largest vendor. The report also notes EDS PLM Solutions has the largest market presence in the cPDm segment of the PLM market -- twice that of the nearest competitor with more than $800 million in software licenses and services.
"We are pleased CIMdata has recognized EDS PLM Solutions as the market leader in revenue and market share," said Bill Carrelli, president, business strategy and marketing, EDS PLM Solutions. "Our prominent position is evidence of our proven track record of delivering superior products and services, which means reduced risk and enhanced value for our customers. In addition, our aggressive 'open by design' and interoperability strategies help address the issues facing the PLM landscape, and we expect these strategies will enable us to continue our leadership position."
EDS, the leading global services company, provides strategy, implementation, business transformation and operational solutions for clients managing the business and technology complexities of the digital economy.
