Innovation and collaborative, synchronized program management for new programs
PLANO, Texas -- EDS PLM Solutions today announced a significant expansion of its Solid Edge® computer-aided design (CAD) software system at VAI CLECIM, a plant equipment producer for the iron industry, based in Saint-Chamond and Montbrison, France.
VAI CLECIM, originally acquired 21 licenses of Solid Edge after evaluating several CAD systems in 2002. The company's current acquisition extends its Solid Edge implementation to 62 licenses, with plans to reach 75 before the end of 2003. The company chose Solid Edge for its design performance, particularly in large assembly management and drafting production, its ease of use and its ergonomics that allowed VAI CLECIM to adopt the software very quickly. VAI CLECIM previously used a 2D system and decided to evolve to a 3D solution to improve its design productivity of special machinery and heavier equipment such as rolling mills and finishing lines.
"The production of complex assembly drawing is a real challenge. Solid Edge is very fast in this domain," said Christophe Furgerol, CAD Manager at VAI CLECIM. "We can produce more than 5,000 drawings for a project which can contain 50,000 parts. The productivity of the drawing generation in Solid Edge has a major, positive impact for our customers."
"The original migration to Solid Edge was achieved without problems, and the training period for the users had very little impact on daily work and the current projects," said Furgerol. "The training, as well as the use of methods adapted to our profession is the keystone of a good implementation of Solid Edge. The ease of the migration from 2D to 3D in Solid Edge allowed us to stay within initial budgets for our projects. This performance is very interesting and lets us expect a significant productivity gain in the near future."
