Solid Edge® Version 15 Adds CAD Partner’s Standard Parts Library and Management System

PLANO, Texas and NITTENDORF, Germany -- UGS PLM Solutions, the product lifecycl e management (PLM) subsidiary of EDS, and CAD Partner GmbH today announced compl etion of a joint technology agreement to provide a standard parts management sys tem for Version 15 of Solid Edge, UGS PLM Solutions’ industry-leading, val ue-based 3D computer-aided design (CAD) system for the mainstream PLM market. The Solid Edge Standard Parts system, delivered with every copy of Solid Edge, a llows designers to define, store, select and position commonly used parts such a s fasteners, pins, bearings and structural steel members in mechanical CAD assem blies in a variety of standards including ANSI, ISO, DIN, UNI and EN. The system will ship with Solid Edge Version 15 this quarter. ( See Solid Edge Version 15 press re lease). The Standard Parts technology, which is integrated directly into Solid Edge, is based on CAD Partner’s SMAP 3D PartFinder product. Also provided in Solid E dge Standard Parts is a baseline set of parts from CAD Partner. Designers can al so populate the library with their own specific components that meet company sta ndards, allowing fast access and placement at any time. Solid Edge’s exclus ive capture fit technology is automatically built into each standard part so tha t it contains enough intelligence to understand how it should be placed in the a ssembly. In addition, Solid Edge’s unique simplification technology is used to turn off the display of non-essential features and enhance overall assembly and drawing performance. In addition to the baseline parts provided in every copy of Solid Edge, an optio nal and extensive library (Machinery Parts Library) containing hundreds of thous ands of components is available as an add-on package. “We share CAD Partner’s vision that because standardized components ar e used in almost every new assembly, they have a direct impact on the time to market, cost and quality objectives of our customers,” s aid Dan Staples, director of Solid Edge business unit for UGS PLM Solutions. &#1 47;Incorporating company-defined standard parts in assemblies helps to optimize inventory and improve manufacturing workflow, further allowing our customers to Design with Insight.” “We have been working closely with Solid Edge in several areas since 1996,& #148; said Werner Heckl, managing director of CAD Partner. “This effort was especially gratifying because it provides the complete integration of our techn ologies and delivers a very smooth and productive method for Solid Edge users to reduce design costs through part standardization.” The Solution Solid Edge ( www.solidedge.com ) from UGS PLM Solutions is powerful 3D CAD software that allows manufacturi ng companies to Design with Insight and to reduce time to market, improve qualit y and lower cost. The exclusive Solid Edge Insight technology embeds design mana gement capabilities directly within CAD, providing insight into design intent to the entire organization and enhancing collaboration.
