Innovation and collaborative, synchronized program management for new programs
PLANO, Texas -- UGS PLM Solutions, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, announced today that its Solid Edge computer-aided design (CAD) software has been selected for use by Link-Belt Construction Equipment Co., a leader in the design, manufacture and sales of telescopic and lattice boom cranes.
Link-Belt acquired 40 licenses of Solid Edge following a detailed evaluation of several CAD systems. The company’s decision to replace its existing CAD system was based on its desire to continue to lead its industry in product innovation while also reducing costs to remain competitive. Link-Belt’s evaluation team cited Solid Edge’s built-in design management technology called Insight, ease of use, legacy data migration and translation capabilities, open architecture, integration with an existing finite element analysis program and the technical support provided by UGS PLM Solutions as key factors in its selection.
We selected Solid Edge to meet customer demand for innovative new crane features by providing 3-D virtual prototypes to integrate the voice of our customers into our emerging product designs, said Bruce White, vice president of engineering for Link-Belt. With Solid Edge, we expect to reduce the overall cost of software ownership, including a 50 percent reduction in maintenance. This will help reduce our overhead and enable us to operate more competitively.
Link-Belt plans to use Solid Edge’s built in data management capabilities and open architecture to streamline communication between engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and various internet data bases.
With Solid Edge Insight, we expect to be able to directly link our CAD data to our MRP system so our designers can focus on design rather than clerical duties, said White.
