TOKYOandPLANO, Texas– UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced it has awarded GM Daewoo Auto & Technology(GM Daewoo)with its Asia Pacific (AP) PLM Excellence Award 2005.
The AP PLM ExcellenceAward recognizes manufacturers in AsiaPacificthat have achieved exceptional business success through the use of PLM software and services. The growing popularity of this prestigious competition is reflected in the diversity of this year’s entrants, ranging from both emerging markets such as India and China and the more established manufacturing powers of Korea and Japan.
GMDaewoo securedthe award after itsIncheon-based design and production team demonstrated how it successfully achieved all first year targets for its UGS™ PLM implementation. The company excelled at transforming their process bysupporting vehicle development time reduction of up to 6 monthsreducing engineering system costs byapproximatelyUS$15 million and increasing the number of concurrent car development programs byup to50 percent.

GMDaewoo, together with runners-up Isuzu Motors, Shenyang Liming Aero-Engine Group and Konka Telecommunications Technology, is invited to present its case at the PLM World Conference 2006, to be held in Long Beach, California, fromMay 8 – 12, 2006. PLM World Conference, an annual user conference for individuals and companies operating within the UGS product environment, provides attendees with the opportunity to learn first hand about the future of PLM and UGS™ products directly from UGS representatives and other users from around the world.
Entries were judged according to several criteria, including the organization’s business challenges, the financial rewards reaped directly from the PLM implementation, the PLM solutions profile, the PLM benefit to the organization and the future plans for PLM implementation across the organization. The competition’s panel of judges was made up of PLM experts from both inside and outside UGS. The panel consisted of Satoshi Ezawa, president of MetaLinc K.K. (a Japan based representative of CIMdata); Professor Xiaoguang Yang, Ph.D,deputydean of the Graduate School of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China; Navi Radjou,vicepresident of Forrester’s Enterprise Applications research team; Beat Neuhaus, vice president of ExperTeam UGS Asia Pacific; and Ron Close, vice president of marketing, UGS Asia Pacific.
