Technical University of Moldova will Receive Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Software from UGS

CHISINAU, Moldova and PLANO, Texas – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced it is providing 150 seats of its NX™ software to the Technical University of Moldova in Chisinau, Moldova.  The in-kind grant will serve engineering and management in Machine Building, Engineering and Management in Mechanics, Energetics and Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics faculties.  

The in-kind grant is enriched by regional partnerships through UGS’ Global Opportunities in Product Lifecycle Management (GO PLM) initiative, which leads the PLM industry in the commercial value of in-kind grants it provides and brings together five complementary community involvement programs focused on academic partnership, regional productivity, youth and displaced worker development and the Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education program.  The GO PLM™ program provides PLM technology to more than 860,000 students annually at nearly 8,400 global institutions, where it is used at every academic level – from middle schools to graduate engineering research programs.

“Our intention is to prepare structured training supported with student workshops and competitions at each of the 4 Faculties where students will be educated continuously with the latest, proven PLM technology,” said Ion Boston, rector of the Technical University of Moldova. “The application of such advanced software along with training support from UGS is a significant contribution to the future development of our students and our industries.”

Technical University of Moldova (TUM) is the only higher technical educational institution in the country, accredited by the state. Since its foundation in 1964 it trained about 55 740 engineers. TUM has 10 faculties: "Energetics", "Engineering and Management in Machine Building", "Engineering and Management in Mechanics", "Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics", "Radioelectronics and Telecommunications", "Technology and Management in Food Industry", "Textile Industry", "Cadastre, Geodesy and Constructions", "Urbanism and Architecture", "Economic Engineering and Business". Within the Faculty of Engineering and Management in Machine Building there is the Technical College. There are also 9 technical colleges affiliated to TUM. The training of those about 18,340 students at the full-time and correspondence sections is supervised by 720 teaching staff, two thirds of them having scientific degrees of Academician, Professor, Associate Professor, Doctor of Science, Philosophy Doctor. The engineer staff of laboratories, workshops, computer centers, etc., consists of about 360 persons.
