FOR RELEASE Friday, July 21, 2006
PLANO, Texas – UGS Corp., a leading provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) products and services, today announced UGS-sponsored racing teams Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports – whose cars are developed with the help of UGS® PLM technology – won four consecutive NASCAR Nextel Cup races combined.
Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Busch won the most recent race, the Lenox Industrial Tools 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway, in NASCAR’s version of overtime. This was the first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup win in 2006 for Busch, who set the record for the youngest driver to ever win a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race in 2005.
Jeff Gordon, also a Hendrick Motorsports driver and a three-time Daytona 500 winner and a four-time NEXTEL Cup Champion, won the Dodge/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway and followed two weeks later with the USG Sheetrock 400 at Chicagoland Speedway. The USG Sheetrock 400 was Gordon’s 75th career win and his first at Chicagoland Speedway. Prior to this win there were only four NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race tracks where Jeff Gordon had not posted a victory, this win leaves three.
Joe Gibbs Racing driver Tony Stewart, the 2005 NASCAR® NEXTEL Cup Champion and winner of the 2002 Winston Cup title, won the Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway to round out the four consecutive wins. This was the second consecutive year Tony Stewart won the Pepsi 400.
“UGS congratulates Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports for their continued success and wishes the teams good luck as the Chase for the Championship nears,” said Dave Shirk, executive vice president of Global Marketing for UGS. “We are proud of our relationship with the racing teams and along with our customers are pleased to know that our solutions help the teams deliver wins to continue to stay on top of the pack and go for the championship.”
