The 2D Dimensional Constraint Manager computes the location of the geometry in a 2D model, or sketch, to satisfy dimensions and constraints. Such sketches can be created in 2D and 3D applications.

The following pages adopt the simple example below to illustrate how the 2D DCM is used in an application and what benefits it provides.

In brief, the process is as follows:

  • The relevant data from the application's sketch environment is added to the 2D DCM.
  • The 2D DCM computes the shape of the sketch and passes the results to the application.
  • Further design modifications can then be made, such as changing dimension values. New results are computed by the 2D DCM and passed to the application.

We will now look at these stages in more detail.
