AEC Software Components

Leading Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) applications adopt PLM Components

The architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) software industry demands continuous improvements in application functionality, robustness and value. Parasolid, D-Cubed and Kineo are software components that meet demands of AEC application developers worldwide, including:

  • Analist
  • Autodesk
  • Bentley Systems
  • CAD Systems
  • CEA
  • Gehry Technologies
  • Glodon Software
  • Intergraph
  • ITER
  • Midas IT
  • Nemetschek Vectorworks
  • TDCI
  • Tekla
  • Thermwood
  • Vertex Systems

Geometric Modeling

Modern applications for modeling the built environment need to represent real-world objects with 3D models that you can easily create, modify, visualize and analyze. The Parasolid geometric modeling component accurately captures geometry in a 3D master model and supports interference checking, computing physical properties, visualization and more. From traditional tools such as Boolean operators to powerful direct modeling functions, Parasolid offers comprehensive design capabilities that enable sophisticated model creation. Parasolid performance is continually optimized to meet the demands of millions of end-users, which makes it suitable for models comprised of thousands of detailed components.

Future-proof Architecture

AEC projects have long lifecycles and engage multiple teams which use a variety of software applications. Future-proof 3D models are required; you can access them at any time regardless of the application. In terms of version compatibility, Parasolid is stable; applications based on current and future versions of Parasolid will be able to read 3D models developed using earlier versions of Parasolid. Furthermore, Parasolid’s native XT file format is supported by hundreds of software applications which benefit from 100 percent interoperability via the XT format.

Improved Design Productivity and Capture of Design Intent

D-Cubed geometric constraint solvers increase design productivity in most major CAD systems. Solving constraints enables protection of certain design aspects while permitting rapid modifications by changing parameter values or dragging geometry into permitted positions. This automatically ensures that design intent is captured and preserved through the project lifecycle. D-Cubed 2D DCM enables 2D sketching applications, such as parametric floor plans. D-Cubed 3D DCM enables parametric part and assembly design and the configuration of pipe/cable networks.

AEC Model Validation and Verification

KineoWorks validates collision-free motion in complex 3D environments. Applications in the energy industry include evaluating human accessibility in the built environment and computing collision-free paths for equipment insertion and extraction in plant maintenance.

For collision detection analysis, Parasolid provides interference checking functionality. D-Cubed Collision Detection Manager and Kineo Collision Detector provide an additional range of collision and clearance computations for specialist applications, such as kinematics studies and point clouds.

Drawing Visualization

Drawings are an important output from many AEC applications and rely on rapid and accurate hidden line computations. Parasolid and D-Cubed Hidden Line Manager (HLM) components provide hidden line computations and are proven across a wide range of CAD applications.

AEC Applications Interoperability

Parasolid-based AEC applications have full data interoperability with hundreds of software applications that support the Parasolid native XT format. Parasolid supports other formats with advanced modeling capabilities, such as tolerance to imported models, together with data translators and the Parasolid Bodyshop data repair tool. The JT Open toolkit enables software vendors to rapidly facilitate 3D data visualization and collaboration with JT - the ISO standard format for viewing and sharing 3D digital product information. AEC software vendors who already support the JT format in some of their applications include Autodesk and Bentley.
