The Hidden Line Manager takes a model and computes information about its edges. The most important information is the visibility of the edges from a given view direction or viewpoint. The model to the left, for example, shows a part where all the edges are displayed. Using the HLM, an application can display the image to the right, where the display of the invisible segments of edges has been suppressed.

• The relevant data from the application's geometric model is added to the HLM.
• The application sets the hidden line options.
• The HLM computes the hidden line view and the results are used by the application.
